So today I got to go to the Library of Congress for my writing class... and this was just one reading room. I was at the Jefferson building, in this giant circular room with two stories of books (there were stairs) bordering the entire room, absolutely packed with information about everything ever. Every country, every war, every school of thought, every famous person who ever lived, I even stumbled across a bunch of hefty black books- entire catalogs of obituaries. Most of the room was made up of huge cream-colored marble columns holding up marble balconies, holding up marble columns, etc. and there were exquisite bronze statues and stained glass windows all around the upper reaches of the walls, which probably went up about 100 ft. to the enormous dome ceiling, which was decorated with hundreds of golden flowers, each about the size of a serving platter, as well as paintings of classic European figures and immaculate detailing in white marble.

So that was pretty nice.

Anyways, I was outside the apartment building earlier, doing my drawing assignment, which was to do five drawings of flowers. I was pretty much just sitting on a raised flowerbed next to the sidewalk, doing mostly blind contours (where you don't look at the paper, just what you're drawing) and so many people stopped by to comment, it was kinda cool. First, there was this really weird sort-of-hippie guy who said he was with some Appalachian organization. I didn't even notice he stopped until he started talking; he told me how cool my drawing looked and that it was great that I was in art school and he said he was trying to find Georgetown because he wanted to take pictures of the campus' beautiful buildings.

Then there was this little old man who stopped to look at a drawing I was doing, just plain contour this time (looking at the paper and the subject, normal stuff but no shading or major details) and he kinda just stood there for a little while before telling me that it "looked really nice!!" He smiled a whole lot. After that, an old asian woman kinda snuck up on me from behind, same drawing as the last, and told me really loudly and excitedly, "You are so smart!!! So smart!" Which was, admittedly, a bit strange, but a nice thing to say nonetheless.

Of course, plenty of fellow artkids passed by to say hey and flip through my sketchbook and talk about stuff- including one of the sophomores, Joey, who came by with bags of goodies from the Foggy Bottom Farmer's Market, which apparently is right behind the metro stop every Wednesday from 2-4 :3 I really like how everybody gets along here. I think it's safe to say I've at least met, if not made friends with, everyone in my freshman class. Of course, there are a couple psychos and a few dicks and bitches but not enough to really be bothersome. I'm pretty happy here.

Once I had finished my doodling, a fellow student named Eleanor passed by on her way to the post office and I tagged along since I needed a stamp for my absentee ballot request. Of course, on our way back we stopped by the farmer's market and I had free samples of fruits and apple butter <3 and bought a honeycrisp apple for a buck. Not a bad deal.

Of course, then I had to come back to the apartment and do my formal critique for visual concepts, which was boring and took forever and then I had to freak out because I couldn't print it because it has an image in it and I don't have MS word and none of my girlfriends have working printers so I had awkwardtime with the RA while she printed it for me and it took forever because she uses Windows. D:

But it's okay now that I've *finally* finished all of my homework. For today.
Tomorrow I have to do concept sketches and figure out what my designs are going to be for my first Resources project, making nonobjective sculptures out of plywood, hardwood, and particle board. This is after I suffer through Visual Concepts and have fun in Drawing, which hopefully won't last until 6pm like it's supposed to, but it never does. The one good thing I like about being at the Georgetown campus is the Einstein Bros. bagel place across the street. Last time I went there, which was my first time going there, I got a cinnamon sugar bagel toasted with honey butter on it. I could have died it was so good. Super cheap, too.

I keep realizing I need such random things. Right now it's a can opener, lotion, and scissors. But I can't really just go out and buy them because I'm still trying to manage a budget when I STILL need to buy supplies after dropping close to a grand on all the crap they put on the supply list, some of which I don't think I'll even use! I hope I use this stuff at some point because apparently the professors didn't even know what was put on our supply lists. For example, all the paintbrushes in the Plaza Art Kit? Not so much going to need those. My foundation courses are pretty much either dry media or writing classes. Kinda makes me mad, but I guess there's always Ebay for all the extra stuff.

For the first time, I can't wait to be done for the week.

Today I saw the Richard Avedon: Portraits of Power exhibit (which was fantastic) at the Corcoran at a special opening for only special Corcoran people and then I went to the Australian Embassy and met high-end graphic designer Robert Foster. All for class credit, for Visual Concepts, my least favorite class :D

Then I went to Drawing, where we did more contour drawings and sat outside in the playground drawing a hibiscus bush. I felt like such a hippie.

Then I came home and went grocery shopping at Trader Joe's, where I bought about 2 weeks' worth of food for about $20. A proud moment, to be sure.

I'm also getting over my horrific cold, which is nice.
Prolly going to the Museum of Natural History tomorrow, which I'm looking forward to a lot.

I'm doing well.

Reading an article about the whole "Hillary should drop out of the race and run as VP" thing, of course I found the crazies in the blogs. And they're always my favorite part. :D starting with this SWEET rap:

"NO-BAMA- MANIAC'S

Listen up and listen close . Time to go to PENNSYLVANIA and cast your vote's .
But before you do , make up your mind's , 63 % of American's are not blind . They say the link's to Islam and racism is fake , but brother can you afford this mistake ? The un-doing would be way to great . He's been caught lieing 9 times in this debate ...Best not make a Voting mistake ..... .... ... ....... .. . .. ..."

"[Bill Clinton] would never accept the role of being the spouse of the VP (mainly because he wouldn't have free reign of the White House and all the interns)"

"The only thing I can think about is the racist and country hater Obama and his wife are; not to mention his lies and poor judement. And, the liar and deceptful person Hilliary is.

No presidential character in either of the two losers!"

"...One more thing before I go all of the people saying what a great speech Obama made yesterday, well all it was just a cover your ass speech, If he did in fact condemn Wrights comments all he spoke of was race ( who's playing the race card seems like his camp is) why is it ok for him to speak of race but don't let any others or your a racists, Not once in his speech did he address the hatred his preacher has for America, REMEMBER GODDAMM AMERICA

ONE MORE THING I THINK HILLARY SHOULD GO INDENPENDENT IF NOT NONMINATED, IF SHE LOVES THIS COUNTRY. JUST TO ENSURE HUSSAIN DOESN'T GET ELECTED, EVEN THOUGH I DON'T BELIEVE HE WOULD ,HILLARY JUST MIGHT WIN AS A INDEPENDENT"

"George W Third Term might not be that bad afterall, since I do not expect any better tha DEMS, who ALWAYS SCARE and Pussyfoot to come out and be recognised.... What the PHOCK are these CRACK HEAD SUPERIDIOTS waiting for? "

And that's all.
I just love Americans sometimes.

ALSO: Teen Struck By Train While Text Messaging

my favorite part: "Last year, the reigning Miss Deaf Texas was struck by a train while checking her text messages (granted, she couldn't hear the train coming)."

So I'm fascinated with, if not addicted to, the AOL news blogs now.

Woman gets rare and previously-thought-to-be-inoperable tumor removed. Comments reach the topic of some of the probable causes of cancer, i.e. smoking, poor diet, genetics.

Comment: "Read the Bible... It is all answered in there.
Smoking = Harmful Substance to Body = Sin = Devil Defined Sickness
Same goes for Poor Diet
Genetics = Higher Risk NOT Guarentee
Ever concsider that High Risk(Genetics) People come from a line of Sinners???"

it's amazing how many of these people are psycho christians. I'm not complaining, though. Keeps me from being bored.

In other news, I really want to play Rock Band right now. And I have no homework or dogs/cats/mother home to keep me company, and the boy is busy being punished by a nameless toilet-cracker. and I ate too many fried cheese curds and chili cheese fries and now I feel faaaaat

Ah well. 3 more school days 'til spring break :D

So I decided to browse through some of the AOL news articles, and as always, I found some wackos in the the comments section, and I learned that some people really are that dumb.

Background: This was an article about scientists in Antarctica finding new species of giant starfish, jellyfish, and populations of mollusks, sea lilies, etc. A picture shows two of the scientists, each holding a two-foot wide starfish. There was a side article about efforts to save the gibbons in Indonesia, the country with the highest rate of deforestation.

The comment: I GUESS INDONISIANS DON'T LIKE GETTING S**T ON WHILE OUT FOR A WALK IN THE FOREST. I GUESS "SCIENTISTS FOR GLOBULL WARMING" DON'T BELIEVE WE AS HUMANS WOULD START A FULL SCALE ATTACK ON BOA'S IF THERE POPULATIONS START TO GET A BIT OVERSIZED. I'M A LITTLE WORRIED ABOUT THE GUY ON THE RIGHT WITH THE STARFISH THAT LOOKS ANATOMICALLY LIKE BARBIE AND AS FAR AS THE GIRL ON THE LEFT I HOPE SHE DOESN'T GET ANY IDEAS ABOUT THE LENGTH OF THE STARFISHES TENTACLES OR THE GIRTH!

On Peeps:
some of these are really cool
and so is this

Also: A shoplifter in Amsterdam five-fingering a pack of meat accidentally left his twelve-year-old son in the supermarket he stole from. The thief was, naturally, traced because of his son. When contacted by authorities he refused to claim his son and asked that they call the child's mother instead.

Hehe.

Lily's party was pretty fun, I enjoyed ice skating and getting tramp stamps and playing rock band and going to the grocery store and taking lots of pictures... as well as getting to see half of Bill Clinton's face when he spoke at the senior center yesterday :D it was awesome.

So I've got pretty much nothing to do today but go easter-clothes shopping, given that I get dressed right now, and tomorrow will be spent at boozy easter and doing art homework, probably.

Only a few more months of high school <3

I feel like lately I've been in a consistently really good mood until I get sleepy, then I turn bitchy and groggy. and I can't really control it either, I don't know why. It's not like I've always been this way. so going out or talking to people at night I get the feeling like everyone else just thinks I'm weird and killing the mood or that they're talking about me behind my back or wishing I weren't there, but no one really says anything, so I don't know if I'm truly being bothersome or if anyone actually cares.

But in general, life's been nice. I just wish there were more to do and that I was more of a night person, or maybe that I found the right crowd of people to be around. I don't know. Maybe I should just sleep when I want to and not worry about having a social life, like Ryan does.

I don't know why, but I REALLY want to go see the NC Symphony play again. I guess I miss that type of music now that I don't hear it every single day.

I also want to go see the band play at a football game, definitely going on the 2nd of november, come hell or high water.

taking ballerina pictures fo real tomorrow, unless the ladies at the front desk were dull-witted enough to have done nothing with the email I sent them. but I'm excited :3 I'd like to take pictures of the band kids in uniform sometime soon, since I have to start putting together a portfolio and all... and I've got to get started with college apps since it's already halfway through october and all I have is like half of a UNC-CH application done.

mmm. well, I guess I'll have plenty of free time to do that, seeing as how all my classes are easy with little homework and that boy spends most of his time either with craig, working, or at play rehearsal.

the fair was lots of fun, I had forgotten how easy it is to blow your money. Looking back, I would much rather have spent my time eating hush puppies and turkey legs and funnel cake and bloomin' onions and cotton candy and pumpkin fudge and apple fries than riding so many rides... I didn't even get apple cider or roasted peanuts or a deep-fried candy bar :/ but I digress, even though all the spinny rides made me miserable and sick and dizzy, it was a lot of fun.

also boys are kinda dumb.

"Of all women, redheads have the most sex.

Although he doesn't explain exactly how he came up with this dubious conclusion, sex researcher and professor Dr. Werner Habermehl of the Hamburg Medical Research Institute in Hamburg, Germany says he examined the sex lives of hundreds of German women and compared the findings to their hair color, specifically red, blonde and brunette.

"The sex lives of women with red hair were clearly more active than those with other hair color, with more partners and having sex more often than the average," Habermehl told London's Daily Mail. "The research shows that the fiery redhead certainly lives up to her reputation."

And if women dye their hair red? That means they're signaling men that they're looking for a sexual partner. "Even women in a fixed relationship are letting their partners know they are unhappy if they dye their hair red," the professor told The Daily Mail. "They are saying that they are looking for something better." (oh, nancy)

Psychologist Christine Baumanns told the British paper, "Red stands for passion and when a man sees a redhead he will think he is dealing with a woman who won't mess around and gets straight to the point when it comes to sex."

I went outside earlier and it was actually cold.
and it felt SO nice.

I could smell the trees in the air and feel it on my skin and it was crisp and clean and refreshing, like September should be. I felt a lot younger and happier and at peace than I did cooped up in the house, overheated and bitchy.

I guess all the summer weather had gotten me in a rotten mood; I mean, I haven't felt so pleasant since january or so.

I kinda felt the same way at the Ice House yesterday. I never realized how much I want to move north.. except in third grade when I was convinced I wanted to move to Maine. and the feeling really hasn't left me, to be honest.

I'm sick of Cary.

But yesterday was a lot of fun. I love Japanese snacks and I love ice skating and I love double dates. oh and I love thunderstorms too.

today was spent sleeping, then visiting the boy, then going home and... sleeping more until monica left. then being frustrated and doing homework. I'll probably do much of the same tomorrow. kinda sucks.

I can't wait to go vintage shopping today or go to the grilling party tomorrow and then sleep over at trisha's.

I can't wait for school to start, either.

The goodberry's fountain was SO COOL with all the soap in it. Also it's fun hanging out with boys.

Joe's gonna go out with Jessicaaaa.
and if he doesn't I'm gonna hit him.

Monica's gonna go out with Daniellll.
the same.

Gonna go to emerald pointe for labor day probably. excited. :3

I need to start playing with my camera again.

I'm in a very good mood.

So I went to the Loop website yesterday to sign up to maybe get free coupons or something for pizza and ended up leaving a little message about how Jerrod was awesome and put a smiley face on my tuna sandwich a long time ago, expecting it to be catalogged in some little Loop online blog full of "omg i <3 piza" comments. So apparently it made its way to the bulletin board at the restaurant and I totally embarrassed Jerrod. XD I hope it's still there, I want to go see it.

Shane fell down today. He's still awkward as ever and does not understand body language or when to take the hint that it's time for him to head on home. It's so hard to just tell him to leave; I feel like it would just break his heart. Lord, he's naive though.

Got 3 new fish today, they're doing pretty well, especially now that I've isolated Butthead from the rest of the tank. The silver/white molly was attacking all the other fish and eating all the food and being enough of a neurotic asshole that I just scooped him out and put him in his own little container. Hopefully he'll calm down and stop being such a douchebag when I reintroduce him into the tank, but that may be a few days. Emma suggested I give him to Michael, if he likes him that much. hahaha.

Going to fix up my schedule tomorrow; don't know how that's going to work out, because from what I've gathered looking at it, I either have to drop english or art, and I really can't do either. god damn green hope scheduling.

Shane came over today, called beforehand and acquired my permission, told me when he'd be coming, and arrived in his car. The boy's evolving, I tell ya.

Chilled here for a little bit then went to his house to go swimming at the resort-level pool at Preston. It was pretty amazing, except it was packed with people. Started pouring rain once we got out of the pool, ran home and soaked a pair of jeans precisely on the side that was facing the rain, the back of them was bone-dry. Ate lunch, was taken home before he headed off to work at Pizza Hut lol. Was taken aback by a kiss on the cheek before he left. So the boy's grown some balls, too. Hoping he doesn't develop an attachment again. :/ He's a good boy, a good friend. Love him, but not like that.

Saw the Fruitfone boy for about 5 minutes. He was excited. It was cute.

Drew a very unflattering self-portrait, again originally a photograph (as was the monica-pic)... okay, so the photograph itself wasn't so flattering to begin with. Well, I love everything about it but the face... the nose specifically. It's HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE. XD That's okay though. Learning experience. I'm getting better!

Finishing meself tomorrow, then drawing... someone else? :o I dunno, I'm on a roll. Dun wanna draw Jamie James. :[ Will prolly just look through my hugenormous photo archive for another inspiration. Can't find any dynamic or well-focused pictures of Boy; I'd like to draw him but will mooost likely end up doing Emma next.
